Very simply, consider the simple equation of calories in have to be equal to calories out to maintain a constant body weight. If more goes in than comes out, then you put on weight, and if more come out than go in, then you lose weight. Breathing consumes calories - but speeding your breathing isn't going to make you skinny. To really consume calories you need to exercise. The basic rule is to keep your diet at natural as possible. Avoid processed foods as much as possible. Your body just is not able to break down processed foods and you just end up putting on weight. Aim to have your 5 a day everyday. Water is vitally important - ideally you should sip continuously throughout the day. If you feel thirsty, then you're already slightly dehydrated. So make sure you keep sipping all day. Lots of people are actually harming themselves in their efforts to lose weight. That's not to say that you're better off doing nothing for fear of causing harm, all it means is that you have to be smart in your actions towards this goal.
