Call for Papers: International Journal of Regional Development

The journal publishes work on how regions grow, why their trajectories diverge, and how policy and planning reshape territorial outcomes. Its unit of analysis is the region — sub-national, cross-border and supranational spaces — and contributions should use space to explain, not merely to locate, the phenomena they study.

Themes

  • Regional economic development and structural change
  • Spatial inequality and territorial cohesion
  • Urban and regional systems, planning and land use
  • Land, resources and environment in regional development
  • Regional policy, governance and institutions

Deadline: Submissions for the 2027 volume are due by 31 July 2027. As the journal publishes one issue a year, manuscripts may be submitted at any time; those received by the deadline are considered for the December 2027 volume, and later submissions for the 2028 volume. Authors receive a first decision within four to ten weeks of submission.

What we publish: Original research articles; review articles on a defined regional question; policy analyses of regional interventions. Descriptive country reports and unsolicited book reviews are not published.

Submission: English; 6,000–10,000 words; Microsoft Word, prepared with the journal's templates and with author details on a separate title page (review is double-blind). Submit through the journal's online portal or by e-mail to ijrd@macrothink.org

Open access: No submission fee is charged; an article processing charge of USD 100 applies only after acceptance.
