The Disproportionate Representation of Black Students within Special Education
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to discuss the causes of disproportionality of African American
students within special education program. Also, this research is discussing the misuse of
special education law against this population as well as represents suggestions to reduce the
increase of black students in special education. Furthermore, this research has showed previous
suggestions to decrease the overrepresentation of black students in special education along
with the author’s suggestions. The aim of this research is to enhance the concept of inclusion
and find methods to increase the inclusion of those marginalized groups in public schools.
